The Anixter Center has been around for almost 100 years and in that time has obtained a history of helping people of all ages with disabilities. The Anixter Center can help in many very different ways from behavioral health and rehabilitation, to employment and housing services.
Behavioral Health Services assists by providing psycho-social rehabilitation which is a structured program that supports the mentally ill to help overcome obstacles in recovery and develop the ability, skills and confidence to move forward. |
Employment Services offers programs for adults with disabilities that assist in finding and preparing for jobs, as well as obtaining any support that they may require from their new employer in order to succeed. |
The Residential Services program manages and maintains 14 group homes and about 120 units for housing. They also have caseworkers on staff to assist those disabled who may need help, but prefer to live in their own homes instead of the institutions housing. |
Hyde Park Day School strives to provide intelligent students with disabilities an educational model that will prepare them for their transition to public, parochial, or private schools in their home towns. Some have also transitioned successfully to college preparatory schools for students with learning disabilities.
The program offers a specialized curriculum for students ages 6 to 15 years old, with moderate to severe learning disabilities, who have average or above intelligence levels. Their summer program offers a multisensory reading and math program for students with learning disabilities, in 2nd through 8th grade. |
Hyde Park Day School only offers a few after school activities. The programs offered vary from year to year, but have included yoga, art, guitar, sports, social skills, cooking and jewelry making. These programs run for the duration of the fall, winter, or spring session. |
